You normally don’t come out of a holiday weekend exclaiming that you survived but that is the case we our family. Besides having a packed schedule with activities and events I also spoke at church on Sunday morning as well as the prison on Sunday night. We were really looking forward to everything that was going on until friday morning around 4:30am. Our Son woke up crying becasue he ahd gotten sick in his bed and then proceeded to get sick as he walked down the hallway to our room. Not the wake up call you are looking for. He had been up several times that night crying but we couldn’t figure out what was wrong.
Pretty much all of Friday he was sick which was tough because I was at work and studying for Sunday. Jen had to deal with everything. Friday night he slept like a baby and so on Saturday morning we thought it was a 24 hour thing. So we decided to go to the strawberry festival in Arroyo Grande and then visit the family up at the beach in Avila. Everything was great until Saturday night when his sickness came back with a vengence. So all saturday night we nursed him.
Needless to say it went to the end of the weekend. I don’t know how much sleep any of us got but I bet you could count it on a couple of hands. Took Caleb to the doctor yesterday and he put him on a special diet. Seems to be working.
God is so good because all of the messages went well. We were bummed to miss a beach party but it was probably better.

I cannot wait until this allergy season ends. Hopefully this weeks rain and today’s strong winds will bow al the pollen out of here. Yesterday I passed out coughing. Totally freaked Jen out and it didn’t help we were at a restaurant with a friend. I am so tired of hacking, sinues draining, and my eyes iching. It hasn’t been this bad for me in five years. Please God remove all of the pollen.

LA Times came out with an article today proving that UCLA is the best sports university in the universe. They will break the century barrier this spring for national titles. Some sport like softball or water polo is going to win the schools 100th national championship. Of course that honor could’ve gone to the basketball team had they shown up that night but we won’t uncover fresh wounds.
No school is even close. Stanford has 92, USC has 83, and the next bloke is Oklahoma State with 47. So laugh all you want Gators, primp your plastic surgery faces Trojans the Bruins are simply the best and only getting better.

My wife recently planted a garden in hopes that we can make fresh salsa this summer. Now understand that salsa can actually act as a meal at our house (yesterday I got away with only chips and salsa for lunch) so it ranks pretty high on the food chain. Yesterday morning I was on the phone with her and all of a sudden I hear "Caleb, No! Get out of there!" pause "Well I just lost a strawberry."
Caleb’s basketball court is right next to Jen’s garden. You kinda saw this on the horizon. Jen had planted a couple of strawberry plants and one came with a small strawberry on it. No more. He trampled that chasing a rebound. When I got home from work Jen told me that a chile plant had bit the dust also. So as the summer goes on I will keep you abreast of the score. Right now Caleb 2 Garden 0

The room our children sleep in is a fish bowl. On the two walls that face out there is three good sized windows. They are also the the room closest to the street so they often get woken up by a loud noise or bright lights. With the time change their room gets flooded with light around 5:30 am and they were getting up around 6am. This has been tough on our devotion time because often when we open our eyes there is a little face looking at us.
Yesterday we were up in Arroyo Grande hanging out witht the family and my wife found these drapes at Ross for really cheap. So we snagged them with some curtain rods and spent the afternoon hanging them up. I gotta say it created a veritable black hole in their room. I sit here at my kitchen table typing this blog enjoying and hour and a half of peaceful time with God. I did my devotions, wrote out the outline for my sermon notes this Sunday, and have read several blogs that I follow. Thank you Jesus for that time.

One of theblogs I read consistently is by a guy named Perry Noble. He started a college ministry a few years ago and it spawned a church that in a very short time has grown to 6,000. He speaks with honesty and truth and his post on money is something we should read all the time. If you have a moment browse on over and take a read

Pastor had a good message about parenting yesterday. Speaking out of Judges 10 he showed that when you don’t lay down a foundation of discipline you will stry from God. Tola had thirty sons who were spoiled and after Tola died Israel turned from the Lord and worshipped the idols of Baal. Tola’s grandfather was named Dodo or in Latin "Dadus Impetus." Perfect illustration of a dad who to busy to parent his children.

Yesterday we had our annual sign upn for our Summer Small Groups and it totally rocked. Pastor Dave and Alice Salazar had our foyer looking like the party it was. Besides my zone being given the color purple it was an awesome morning. We had over thirty people sign up for one group. That sent me scrambling to find another house to host and for another teacher. I found the house and hopefully soon we will have a teacher.
What is so cool about my zone is that our first host is a single mom with three kids, who is willing to host the group in her apartment. Man that is so cool. She is partnering with a couple who just graduated from Bible college and are getting ready to go to Israel as missionaries. Finally we have a lot of solid families who signed up. I can’t wait until it gets going. Zone BBQ at my house!

As you know the Davinci Code movie comes out today. Amid all the controversay and hoopla there are some good resources out there to help you make sense of it all. Click on the following links
Fast Facts on the Davinci Code
Movie Reviews
Calvary Chapel is doing a seminar on the movie next Wednesday and Thursday
This can a great opportunity to enter into a spiritual discussion with a non-believer. Hollywood is giving us so many lines to start the discussion with. If you have a friend who is into the book go see the movie with them then buy them a peice of pie afterwards and talk about the movie.

On the font page of the LA Times this morning is an article on how the church is using the digital age to reach new people for Christ. Some churches are doing a good work with it. It gives you a good perspective on what is happening.
